How Many GB Will GTA 6 Be? File Size on PS5 & Xbox (Estimate)

≈ ESTIMATELast updated:
Neon title card: How many GB will GTA 6 be? PS5 and Xbox size estimate

Quick answer

Rockstar has not announced the GTA 6 install size. We recommend planning for about 150 GB of free space as a safe buffer — that's our estimate, not an official number. We'll update this the moment the real size shows up on PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store.

Short answer: nobody outside Rockstar knows yet. Anyone giving you an exact number right now is guessing.

But "wait and see" isn't a plan. So here's ours.

The official size: not announced

Rockstar has not published an install size for GTA 6. Pre-orders are already open (since June 25, 2026) and pre-load is confirmed for November 12, 2026 — the real size usually shows up on the store listing around then. See the pre-load guide.

Our planning estimate: ~150 GB

We tell our crew to have about 150 GB free. Why that number?

  • GTA 6 is Rockstar's biggest world yet — Vice City and the whole state of Leonida.
  • Rockstar's last open world, Red Dead Redemption 2, already needed well over 100 GB.
  • Big games almost always get a Day-1 patch on top of the base install.

This is an estimate. It's a safety buffer, not a leak. If the real number is smaller, great — you're ahead.

How many GB will GTA 6 be on PS5?

Same answer: not announced. PS5 and Xbox versions of big games are usually in the same ballpark, so our ~150 GB planning number applies to both. A standard PS5 has about 667 GB of usable space (825 GB model) and an Xbox Series S only about 364 GB (512 GB model), so Series S owners should clear space first. More: GTA 6 on Xbox Series S.

How big will GTA 6 be compared to other games?

For context only, not a prediction: Red Dead Redemption 2 needed well over 100 GB on consoles, and GTA 5 grew far past its launch size through updates. Expect GTA 6 to be one of the biggest installs on your console.

Will it fit on your console?

Use our free storage calculator. Pick your console, type your free space, done.

How to free up space fast

  1. Delete finished games. Saves stay in the cloud or console storage.
  2. Clear old captures. Video clips eat more space than you think.
  3. Move older games (PS4 / Xbox One titles) to an external USB drive.
  4. Upgrade storage with an M.2 SSD (PS5) or Storage Expansion Card (Xbox) if you play a lot of big games.

FAQ

+What is the official GTA 6 file size?

There isn't one yet. Rockstar hasn't published it. The size usually appears on store listings closer to launch; pre-load starts November 12, 2026.

+Why plan for 150 GB?

It's a deliberately safe buffer for a huge open-world game plus a Day-1 patch. Rockstar's previous open-world game, Red Dead Redemption 2, already needed well over 100 GB. It is an estimate, not a fact.

+Will GTA 6 fit on an Xbox Series S?

The Series S has the smallest internal SSD of the current consoles, so you'll likely need to clear space. Use our calculator to check.
