GTA 6 Online Release Date: Does GTA 6 Have Online at Launch?
Quick answer
No. GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 as a single-player game with no online mode. Take-Two's CEO confirmed it at the September 2026 shareholder meeting, and the ESRB rating has no 'Users Interact' label. GTA Online (from GTA 5) keeps running, and a GTA 6 online mode has not been announced.
The big question after "when does it release": can I play GTA 6 with my friends? On launch day, the answer is no. Here's exactly what's confirmed.
GTA 6 launches as a single-player game
At Take-Two's annual shareholder meeting on September 17, 2026, CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed that GTA 6 launches as a single-player experience. He also said: "There's no recurrent consumer spending anticipated with regard to this launch."
So on November 19, 2026 you get the full story mode with Lucia and Jason in Leonida, but no online mode.
The ESRB rating backs it up
When the ESRB rating went live on October 1, 2026, one label was missing: "Users Interact". That label is used for games where players can chat or interact online, and GTA 5 had it because of GTA Online. GTA 6 doesn't. Details: GTA 6 age rating.
What happens to GTA Online?
It keeps going. Zelnick said GTA 5's online component "continues to be a robust business." There's no announced shutdown.
Bonus for buyers: digital pre-orders of GTA 6 include one free month of GTA+, which gives GTA Online membership benefits plus the GTA+ Games Library (with GTA V). On PlayStation it turns into a paid subscription if you don't cancel, so set a reminder.
GTA 6 Online release date: when will it come out?

Can you play GTA 6 with friends at all?
Not inside the game at launch. What you can do: find a crew to play the story at the same time, share tips and spoiler-safe chat. That's exactly what our free Discord is for.
Do you need PS Plus or Game Pass Core?
Single-player games normally don't require an online subscription. Rockstar hasn't published a specific requirement for GTA 6, so we'll confirm it as soon as the store listings show it. You will need internet for the download and pre-load: see the pre-load guide.
Why this matters for cheats
In past GTA games, cheats only worked in story mode and were blocked online. A single-player launch makes it more likely cheats return, but that's still not confirmed. See Will GTA 6 have cheats?
